Sergio Perez says he has not apologised to Jenson Button after the McLaren team-mates made contact on track while racing for position at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Perez nudged the back of Button's car during the skirmish and later touched wheels with his team-mate while travelling at 300km/h. Immediately after the race Button labelled Perez's driving as "dirty" but on Monday he tweeted that the pair had met to "clear the air".

However, Perez said at no point during the post-race debrief had he apologised to his team-mate, arguing that it was not necessary to do so.

"I think that the criticism took place right after the end of the race," he said. "We had the chance to talk, which was very good for me, the team and for Jenson. It was said in various publications that I apologised to Jenson, but it wasn't like that.

"I didn't apologise to him because I didn't think it was necessary. We owed an apology to the team and that's what we talked about. We apologised to the team because we risked a lot and we were both very aggressive, but no, at no moment did I apologise and my relationship with Jenson is still okay."
