Tony Brise was considered one of the most promising young drivers at the time of his death when only 23 - he was in the light-aircraft piloted by former world champion Graham Hill, which crashed in thick fog near Elstree killing all six people on board. Hill had only just formed his own team, of which Brise was a driver, and the crash killed almost all those involved with it.
Brise came to Hill's attention after storming through British Formula Atlantic racing and then Formula 3. He had started racing karts aged 10 and was winning championships within two years.
He had impressed in his ten grand prix, and although he had only one top six finish to his name, he had regularly shown he was able to mix it with the big-name drivers. At the time of his death he had just signed a two-year contract with the Embassy-Hill team.
