Bob Evans progressed to Formula One through the usual channels, his break came when he won the British Formula 5000 title in 1974. He drove for BRM in 1975 but the team was in crisis, the car was poor, and Evans struggled to make an impression, with a ninth in Belgium his only top-ten finish. In 1976 he moved to Lotus, primarily as a test driver, switching to Brabham later in the season. He did not feature in F1 after that year, moving to the Aurora F1 Championship where he finished second, driving a Cosworth, in 1978.
