Cyril Abiteboul is the man Tony Fernandes has entrusted with the running of his Formula One team. Taking up the team principal role at the end of Caterham's third year in F1, Abiteboul is expected to take the infrastructure put in place by Fernandes and turn it in to a points-scoring team.
He is the youngest team principal in the paddock but has been in and around F1 with engine-supplier Renault Sport since 2007. After graduating in 2001 he started work at Renault's head office in Boulogne-Billancourt and by 2010 had worked his way up to become the executive director of Renault Sport F1.
He joined Caterham as the team's CEO in September 2012 and by the November was named as Tony Fernandes' replacement as team principal. Fernandes will return his focus to his airline AirAsia, with Riad Asmat continuing as the Caterham Group's CEO. Abiteboul, meanwhile, is expected to lead Caterham's technical team to success from its new factory in Leafield.
