Profile
After a successful career in the junior categories - in which he won 42 British Formula Ford races in 1968 alone, as well as the British Formula Three crown that year - and after a mixed season of Formula Two, Tim made his Formula One debut for Frank Williams' de Tomaso team in 1970, following the death of Piers Courage.
He was then signed to partner Graham Hill at Brabham, and overshadowed the former World Champion for most of the year, finishing third in Austria. A move to Surtees in 1972 proved to be a mistake, however, and effectively ended any chances he might have had of landing a top Formula One drive. He then drove the uncompetitive Trojan in 1974, then concentrating on sports cars before retiring in 1977. Tim later formed a company for building racing cars with racer Howden Ganley.
