A winner in rallies, rallycross and sports cars, Vic was no slouch either when it came to Formula One machinery. He had a very good year in 1968, for he won the Monte Carlo Rally, the Daytona 24 Hours, the Targa Florio and the Nurburgring 1,000kms, and, on top of those victories, he made his Formula One debut, albeit in a Cooper when Coopers were no longer the cars to have.
Somehow, he carried one around to a fourth- and a fifth-place finish. A privately entered McLaren followed for 1969, but Vic hit some debris in the German Grand Prix, crashed and broke his arm, putting his career into a downward spiral. Since 1974 he has run a racing school in the US.
