Profile
Nino Vaccarella only started four grand prix but was a legendary sports car driver in his native Italy and a favourite at Ferrari. The former school headmaster didn't make his F1 debut until he was 29, and only once drove in a competitive car once for Ferrari. However, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964 driving for the legendary Italian marque and was a three time winner of the Targa Florio in 1965, 1971 and 1975. In 1966 he and his co-driver Lorenzo Bandini led most of the way in the Sicilian endurance race and looked set for a comfortable win in the beautiful Ferrari 330 P3. However, Vaccarella lost control while waving to the crowd and crashed into a wall with Viva Nino emblazoned across it in paint.
