Vic Wilson spent his formative years in South Africa before heading to Europe and starting racing. His only Formula One chance came at Monza in 1960 when Dick Gibson crashed his Cooper, suggesting that Wilson try to repair it and, if successful, drive it himself. He did, retiring after 23 laps with engine failure. He later raced a Lotus and Ferrari, funded by his rich cousin Bernard White. After racing he worked as a motor dealer, dying in a car crash in 2001.
