Young American driver Alexander Rossi joins Caterham as the team's official test driver for the 2012 season.
Rossi followed the traditional path of karting, becoming IKF Grand National Champion in the 100cc Yamaha class and a semi-finalist in the Red Bull Formula One American Drivers search with a top 5 finish overall out of over 2,000 nationwide candidates. It led to a Skip Barber National Scholarship and Rossi finished third overall to become the youngest winner in Skip Barber National Championship history at 14.
Successive seasons in Formula BMW USA and Europe followed. He won the overall championship in 2008, becoming the first American Formula BMW Champion in the Americas Championship, with ten wins from the fifteen races. It earned him a Formula One test with the BMW Sauber F1 Team.
After a year in International Formula Master, where Rossi achieved three wins on the way to fourth overall, Rossi moved to GP2 Asia then GP3 where he competed for the ART grand Prix team. The 2010 season saw him win twice on his way to fourth in the series.
Following his solitary GP3 season, Rossi moved on to compete in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series with Fortec Motorsport He won the opening race of the season in Aragón and the second race at Le Castellet en route to third in the championship and the top rookie driver.
