Profile
Eugenio cut a swathe through European sports car racing in the early 1950s. He made his Formula One debut at the 1955 Argentinian Grand Prix with Lancia and swept to second place on his second outing, at Monaco. On the death of team-mate Alberto Ascari, he became team leader and scored points three more times to be third overall. Continuing with the Lancia-Ferrari set-up in 1956, Eugenio was second in the French Grand Prix and finished sixth overall in the championship. He won the legendary Mille Miglia road race to make up for his disappointment with his Formula One results. Eugenio was only to race in one more grand prix, however, being killed when testing for Ferrari at its Modena testing circuit in early 1957.
