Robin Montgomerie-Charrington, who preferred to be known as Monty, was an enthusiastic if limited amateur who raced a JAP-engined Cooper before buying a Formula 2 Aston-Butterworth in 1952, and it was June of that year he made his one Formula One World Championship appearance, being forced to retire after 17 laps of the Belgian Grand Prix. His only real success came when he finished third in the Grand Prix des Frontières at Chimay. At the end of the year he retired and emigrated to the USA.
