Profile
Art Cross competed in four Indianapolis Grand Prix between 1952 and 1955; his best result was second in the 1953 event. He had shown his ability in midget racing before World War II, and after receiving a Purple Heart for his bravery fighting for the US forces, he returned to motorsport and by 1952 won Rookie of the Year for his fifth place finish at the Indy 500. He also led in the 1954 and 1955 races but retired soon after. He worked on his farm on Indiana and in the construction business until his death in 2005.
