Profile

Piero was in his 40s when the World Championship started in 1950, having made his debut 20 years earlier on the Mille Miglia. He finished second in the Swiss Grand Prix for Ferrari in 1951 and scored his only grand prix win in the same race a year later, also coming second in the British Grand Prix. Piero then concentrated on sports cars with Lancia in 1953 and won the Targa Florio the following year before dropping back into Formula One for Mercedes in 1955, finishing second in the Italian Grand Prix. After winning the 1957 Mille Miglia, he hung up his helmet and opened a racing school.
