Profile
Ex-F1 racer Luis Perez-Sala was appointed as HRT's team principal in December 2011 after owners Thesan Capital decided to move the team to Spain.
Perez-Sala has been advising the team under Colin Kolles's reign and took control with the challenge of getting two cars on the grid for the start of the 2012 season. He just about managed, but HRT missed pre-season testing and both cars failed to qualify in the opening round in Australia.
In his previous career as a driver he showed promise in Formula 3000 but it was never quite matched in Formula One. Perez-Sala took two wins in F3000 in both 1986 and 1987, was second to Stefano Modena in the championship in the latter year, and looked promising when he stepped up to Formula One with Minardi in 1988.
When Pierluigi Martini joined the team he was over-shadowed and went on to race in the Spanish Touring Car Championship.
