Profile
Christian first came to prominence when he raced a BMW M1 in 1980. BMW signed him on a three-year contract and placed him in the works March Formula Two team for 1981, despite his having no single-seater experience. It took him until the end of 1983 to get on to the pace. Driving for Bob Sparshott, he was the inaugural Formula 3000 champion in 1985 and was given two Formula One outings by Zakspeed. A move to Osella for 1986 produced little and Christian joined Arrows mid-season, hitting the points in Austria. Returning to Zakspeed in 1987, he had little to cheer about. Christian's final shot at Formula One was with the new Rial team in 1989 and he came fourth at Phoenix, but only qualified once thereafter, and quit again for touring cars.
