Profile
An heir to the wealthy DuPont family, Brett's early racing career was interrupted by a spell in Vietnam in the American army. He resumed in Formula 5000 in 1971, tried Formula Two in Europe in 1972 and then moved up to Formula One in 1975 as James Hunt's team-mate at Hesketh. Brett switched to Surtees in 1976, and drove a private McLaren in 1977-78, with minimal impact.
