Profile
Barcelona has always been the home of Spanish motor racing, but Madrid fought back with the construction of Jarama in 1967. From the pen of John Hugenholtz, it used the local gradient well and introduced the modern style of a long straight and tight, twisting corners rather than fast, sweeping ones. This made it hard to overtake, as Gilles Villeneuve proved when he delayed a train of faster cars in 1981.
