Mercedes progressing with rear degradation - Rosberg
Nico Rosberg believes Mercedes is learning to manage its rear tyre degradation better, but is hoping his team can make even more progress ahead of qualifying for the European Grand Prix.
Rosberg set the tenth fastest time during Friday practice, but said his focus had been on managing the tyres on heavy fuel rather than going for a fast lap.
"All in all it was a good session today," he said. "High-fuel is important here because rear tyre wear is a big issue here for the race, as we saw in Montreal. But as a team we are progressing a lot, we have much better control over this issue now and so I think for the race we are looking okay at the moment. I don't know if it's enough to do really, really well but it's enough to do well for sure."
But Rosberg said he would be asking his team to work on the car's grip out of slow corners ahead of final practice on Saturday morning.
"It's mainly rear grip we're lacking a little bit at the moment and also the rear degradation in the longer runs. It was also difficult to avoid locking the front tyres in the braking zones. I'm looking forward to the next two days and it should be an exciting race on Sunday."
