Jenson Button said he was happy to finish second in the Canadian Grand Prix as team-mate Lewis Hamilton stormed to victory.

"It was a great race, very enjoyable and pretty tough," said Button, who started from fourth position. "It was a really fun race and it is very difficult to judge when to push on the tyres. I began trying my best to reel in Lewis, but I'd taken so much out of my tyres while chasing Fernando that I couldn't get any closer to Lewis than about two seconds. I think I probably kicked in a bit early in the last stint, but it got me P2, so a big thank you to the whole team."

The result kept Button in with a good chance of defending his drivers' title as he is second in the standings, only three points behind Hamilton. Afterwards, he paid credit to his McLaren team-mate for a fantastic performance.

"This guy [Hamilton] was phenomenal. It was good to finish close to him in the race and good to get some points. It was an exciting race from that point of view. It's great to be up at the front watching the fight between these two. It was fun, and for the viewers it was a great race, down to the tyres being a bit more different than normal. It has made for a hell of a race. Hopefully, next time the order will be reversed!"
