Jenson Button said McLaren failed to meet expectations during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix, despite taking his best grid position of the season.

Button will start from sixth at Spa on Sunday after showing improved pace in both wet and dry conditions. Nevertheless, he expected to be quicker this weekend and says the car still lacks aerodynamic efficiency.

"I think there are a couple of things that we are lacking here that we didn't think we would be, Efficiency is one of them," he said. "That hurts you a lot round here and we don't know why we are lacking. It's something we need to study for the future and it could make Monza a little bit difficult. It's something we need to look at because we are not efficient enough and not as quick as we expected to be."

Asked if he would prefer wet weather on Sunday, Button said he'd rather the rain stays away so McLaren can continue to make progress with its car.

"I'd rather it was dry and see what we can do in the dry. The wet was a little bit tricky for the whole of the top ten. It's been a good day in the end and it's been a bit tricky trying to work out the car. P6 is the pace of the car and is well deserved."
