Lewis Hamilton says that he is "massively excited" to find out how quick the other teams are during FP3 for the Australian Grand Prix on Saturday.

Friday's opening two practice sessions were affected by rain as a damp start to FP1 was followed by a very wet FP2. The track never fully dried in the afternoon with some water remaining on certain parts, and times were difficult to read in to as McLaren was first and second in the first session but then 15th and 16th in FP2. Hamilton said that the true pace would be seen when teams run similar schedules on Saturday.

"I think tomorrow we'll definitely get a better understanding of just how quick people are," Hamilton said. "I think people generally usually go through the same programme in terms of what fuel to use and tyre runs through P3. So we'll get a better understanding of it and it's going to be interesting I think; I'm massively excited to see how it goes."

When asked what he had been able to learn during Friday's running, Hamilton admitted that the weather prevented much progress.

"Well the car runs, that's about it really. We didn't really get to do too much running this morning, just working to try and make sure we switch the tyres on and get a good run on them which seemed to go quite well. This afternoon it was not really that great a running to be honest, it was quite wet for quite some time and then it dried up but there was still a big wet patch on one of the corners so it was quite slow."
